Williams and Badcock
Taken in about the 1920's this is Williams and Badcock. Their shop was on the Terrace in Market Jew Street but I'm not sure exactly where.... Maybe you can help?
Update info from Martha (registered user)
I asked my elderly aunt and she said it was at the top of the Terrace where the jewellery shop is now (formerly Victoria Wine)
One of the things they used to sell was toerag which was salt cod boiled and often eaten for breakfast !
Sounds delightful
Mind blowing. I know there is another picture in the albums that shows this shop near the top of the Terrace. I will have a look when I get a chance. Should be in the 1914 Kelly Directory - I will have a look there as well. Nice picture - those were the days when shop lifting was necessary for so many, and the parents (were allowed to as well) gave the kids a clout round the ear.

Yes, picture entitled can you help - image titled The_crew_1940s. Shopfront constructed by Caldwell and Perkins (shop had lion features).

They were not at this address in 1914, the shop front, however, is older; I will work out the address ad search some more.

My uncle used to speak of toerag that he had as a child; strange, must have tasted terrible. Young troublemakers were called toerags, based on the fact that tramps tied a bit of rag around their feet (not being able to afford socks).
I do like herring rollmops, though.

Toerag was good had it many times for breakfast when a kid in fact my father always had a bussa full of salted cod, fish has always been
a favourite of my palate

@ Treeve some of the old words and sayings would be unknown to the youngsters of today
