Taken of Penzance in 1925, this hand painted photo show just how much has changed in our town.

This could be a little earlier as the lifeboat house at Penlee built in 1912is not visable..
 
Penzance Lifeboats 3 unnamed vessels in 1803, 1826,1853,1860 with the (Princess) Alexandra; 1865 with the Richard Lewis.1884 Dora, Lifeboat House built, the first in a Cornish port,1895 Elizabeth and Blanche1899 Elizabeth and Blanche (new vessel by a different constructor)1908 Cape of Good Hope1912 Janet HoyleIn 1917 the lifeboat station was closed down.
 
All the houses that are now above Thornberry Terrace but are not built when this picture was taken are in the late Victorian Style, so I would guess that this image was taken in the late 19C
 
Quote "This could be a little earlier as the lifeboat house at Penlee built in 1912is not visable." D'oh! Didn't read that carefully enough & assumed you were referring to the building at the bottom of Jennings Street!
 
First launch, by the Elzabeth and Blanche, from Penlee took place 22nd Oct 1914 for the Liguria, the lifeboat was later replaced by The Brothers, 20th Dec, 1922, the first motorised drive of the Watson type. 90bhp.
 
The 'W & S', inaugurated 15th Aug, 1931, Winifred Alice Coode and Sidney Webb; - 'Solomon Browne', ceremony of naming 17th Sep, 1960.1981 was a fateful year for the lifeboat and crew, Well recounted by Michael Sagar-Fenton, in his book 'Penlee - The Loss of a Lifeboat'
