Savoy Cinema - 2

In June 1912, Cowell and Drewitt began working plans of the new Cinema in Causewayhead; The site was that of the Victoria Hall. All the working drawings, including the survey drawing have the heading 'Victoria Hall'. This is the 1912 drawing of the Cinema Causewayhead elevation; I have a very vague recollection of the Atlas statue, and the tiled facade; wonderful details. How much of it remains hiding behind today's dreadful facade is anyone's guess.
Like so many decent things in this town, they have been allowed to rot through negligence, with an eye to profit, rather than to the true wealth that we have been given through design and hard skilled graft.

There is a photo in (Home > All picture about Penzance > Penzance Central > Penzance 1950 s) of how it looked in the 1950s

Hawkwind Secret Agent, eh??I was trained in Arizona,
in a secret desert camp
where we did night manoeuvres
without a lighted lamp.
I ve got an old worn Trilby hat
that doesn t keep me dry
when the rain falls on my mac
plays havoc with the dye
I wear my dark shades every day of the year
when I see my reflection it strikes a note of fear. read#
