Penzance Central

The Plan showing the Compulsory Purchase areas to form the Car Park. November 1948. Can anyone remember just who Carter and who Sheppard was? The purple area Pool was a warehouse for beer and spirits, I think. Just what the area marked King was I do not know. I am not familiar with O Hall either as an owner. What was the Public House on Parade Street? I think Bevills were shoe repairs. Any ideas, please?
It was Carter the chemists next door was Sheppard bros, wine and groceries, the pub in Parade st was the Park Inn behind the park was Pools brewery, Osborne Hall was a grocery wharehouse opposite there was the Penzance knitting factory,Osborne Hall moved to Gulval near the mill. If I remember right there was a steel girder from Pools brewery that was found in the Rec after the bombing

Thank you very much for that ... it is all very well having the Blight survey, with key (which I transferred on to the plan), but I was just 7 at the time this plan was drawn, with rather limited interest in property names !! laugh# Knowledge like yours is precious.

welb1931, do you know who King was? It looks like it was in the area of the car park ticket machine and entrance.

way back in the 50s - ooo now I should be feeling old. Mind you, I am still waiting for middle age. laugh#

Thanks Norm ... I have Penzance property lists collecting, up until 1939, but after that is really hard work. Where is The Old Smithy, please?

Bevill s Shoe repair,I remember as Standard Shoe. The Old Smithy seems to ring a bell..was it the blacksmith that was behind the Seven Stars pub ???
