Long Rock 1851

A small section of the copy of the plan of Darlington that I have.
Wheal Darlington Mine 1851.
Area designated West Wheal Darlington.

Originally opened as Bog Mine (a rather telling name) c1790 until 1798; secondly it operated 1833.
Besides working silver, Tin, Copper and quartz, it produced much vital geological information as to the composition of the Bay, raised beaches, drifts, ancient vegetable matter below ground. There were also a number of fatalities.

The year before the railway line arrived.
It was run originally across The Green.
About half way up the right edge is a 'Y'. Just there can be seen the position of the ends of the mining tunnels. They extended right to the edge of Red River. I will try and work out how to put more of this plan on here, I know at least one member who would like to see it.

I see this mine was re-opened in 1833, so it must have been owned by Henry Vanes father, as Henry Vanes did not become earl until 1842.
