Princes Street - 05

Next door to the present Lodge is what was built originally as a Temperance Hotel.
Run by the Matthews family; it started life as Nr 2 Princes Street, but from 1871 was named Nr3.
[The Billiards Club premises were then Nr 1 and Nr2 Princes Street]
By 1891 the Hotel became a Public House.
This present building appears to be largely re-modelled around the original elevation, using concrete;
unfortunately, the pebble dash and poor attempt at pilaster work does little for the building.
It must have been seriously damaged during WWII, as the Lodge has received major internal repairs on the first floor, and the building which used to face on to New Street had been hit and the site cleared.
