Armstrong Tomb, Madron

William Armstrong died 20 Feb 1832 at Penzance; was 19 years, son of John and Mary Armstrong of Priestlands, Lymington, Hants.
Upon the vault is set the Memorial to John Scobell Armstrong. A bronze sculpture by F. Rousseau Emandel, dated 1929.
It symbolises a youth immersed in music, playing in the clouds.
The Latin seems to mean that he was in best spirits when with friends, he loved many and many loved him.
John Scobell Armstrong; born 1st August 1842 at Nancealverne; died 6th May 1929; his ashes lie here.
Not keen on displaying my ignorance to William Armstrong..... but should I have heard of him?

It was my intention to dig through my files and write up what I can; it is more that the family were part and parcel of the Scobell-Armstrong family; I was struck by the loss of one so young, meeting a member of society, who had a good innings in such circumstances (in Death), with the statue portraying a blindfolded youth (what a metaphor) providing the world with the music of the clouds. I will see what I can do.

I rented the lodge off the last Scoble-Armstrong. a lot of history in Nancealverne, I went into the house a couple of times and now I wished I took more notice of the inside.

I now have assembled all the details of the family, bear with me, it will take a while to be written.
I thought that I may as well write up the Carveths as they lived there, and built Nancealverne house itself; it is my belief the house was the work of John Dennis.
