Porthcressa House, St Mary's

1951
My father centre back, Granda Thompson back right.
My sister right.
My brother front, with myself back left.
Centre front, my great Granny Thompson.
She was, sweet, loving, tough and with very strong principles that brought her to Scilly in the first place. Her mother had died, leaving her father carrying on the decorating business in Falmouth (they descended from a Redruth family of long standing). Her father found a new wife, and great Granny (Elizabeth) did not approve as she was loyal to her mother's memory. great great grandfather Hocking moved to South Wales, when my great Granny decided to leave the family and she took it into her head to live in St Mary's, where she married Archibald Thompson (witnessed by her own father, no less).
Chequered family histories, eh? A priceless picture of the young Treeve and siblings. My wife s grandfather reacted in exactly the same way when his mother remarried, his father, having died. He left home, in pique, in similar fashion, I learn.
