Are you sure of the date of these pictures?
Could they be later? The reason I ask is that I believe that the "zig zag" at zebra crossings weren't common place until 1980 and beyond. I might be wrong on this as I've not looked in to this in any detail. If my memory serves me correctly up until 1979 the zebra crossing had studded steel squares in threes to represent the start of a pelican or zebra crossing. I seem to remember that the studded area was designed as a warning to motorist that the area should be treated with caution. The introduction of the zig zags was more to do with obstruction, or rather the prevention of it on or near a designated crossing.

You must be wrong, HH! I can assure you and all others that these pictures are certainly from August 1977 as my brother Pete is is in them and that is the year he was over with his family from New Zealand! I also have others down at the Bathing Pool which I may upload in due course. What is more these Carnival slides were in a box and marked with a description and that date.
Yeah, I thought it might be! I can't imagine knickers flying through the air in St John's Hall...
Looking at this page: http://www.penzanceoperatic.com/history.html it looks like Tom Jones was performed in 1950 and the Gondoliers in 1977, so it must have been some other company putting it on.
