Castle Road

Taken from the top by Lescudjack Castle. 1991
Please tell me what and where is Lescudjack Castle? Never heard of when I lived in Penwith.

A popular name for the Iron Age Hill Fort that crowned the top of Lescudjack Hill. The only piece of land left undeveloped is the field at the top of Castle Road. (The road is named this because of the hill fort.) There is more info online, I helped contribute to the Wikipedia entry on Lescudjack Hill fort. Just do a search!

Up until a couple of years ago the whole area (hill fort) was owned by Gerald Hosking builders. Lescudjack School (1915-1980) took it s name from this fort.

Thanks denamor, I ll look it up, being a St Juster I don t know a lot about the history of Penzance, although I spent many happy hours there, after all that s where the action was when we were young;)
