Levant

Tuesday 19th October 2009 marked the 90th anniversary of the Levant Mine Disaster, in which 31 miners were killed when the Man Engine collapsed in its shaft. A memorial service was held on the site of the miners' dry to commemorate the tragedy.
Rocker shovels, seemingly waiting to be set on display; I'd hazard a guess that these are from Geevor.
Fine set of pictures, BOP! As it was told me years ago, the operator of the man engine at the time warned the employers that the thing was juddering ominously but, with no due regard for their workforce, they took the man off that job and put a young man on instead and a couple of weeks later, it snapped with the 31 unfortunates, leaving many more family members and the whole community mourning. Am I right in thinking the mine continued working partly until the early 1930s?
