Tuesday 19th October 2009 marked the 90th anniversary of the Levant Mine Disaster, in which 31 miners were killed when the Man Engine collapsed in its shaft. A memorial service was held on the site of the miners' dry to commemorate the tragedy.
The preserved whim (winder) house which contains the original winding engine. To my knowledge, this is the only place in Cornwall where a mine's engine can be seen operating under steam in its original setting.
