Tuesday 19th October 2009 marked the 90th anniversary of the Levant Mine Disaster, in which 31 miners were killed when the Man Engine collapsed in its shaft. A memorial service was held on the site of the miners' dry to commemorate the tragedy.
The original bedstone of the whim engine, sadly broken during removal, together with a section of the rising main from the pumping shaft.
