Twestival's back. The social media charity event has been announced for the third year running.
Taking place all around the world on the same day, Twestival will take place on Thursday 24 March.
The worldwide 2011 Twestival events are all Twestival Local events, which means they are all designed to raise money for local charities, where funds raised are invested directly back into the local community and have a direct benefit to people in the local area.
The Twestival concept, which started on the micro-blogging platform Twitter in 2009, aims to connect people offline at the same time as raising money for worthy causes. Hundreds of Twestival Local events are being held at locations across the globe throughout the day and night of 24 March.

Cornwall Twestival Local, will include a number of events this year, offering something for everyone. The fundraising will kick off at 11pm on Wednesday 23 March with a pyjama party at Starbucks at Chiverton Cross Roundabout. People are encouraged to come along to the popular networking hotspot in their pyjamas or casual clothes, to grab a hot chocolate before bedtime and to count down to the start of Cornwall Twestival Local in a New Year’s style celebration.
From 09.30 on Thursday 24 March, people will be able to attend Social Media workshops at the Pool Innovation Centre. Social Media consultant and trainer, Aren Grimshaw, will be hosting a series of Ask Aren Social Media Workshops during the day, giving an insight into the basics of Social Media, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Each taster session will last one hour and people can chose to attend one or all of the sessions during the day.
At 1pm people will get the chance to take the very first Twestival Treasure Trail. A fun and unique one hour long treasure trail has been developed by the award winning company, Treasure Trails, which will take in some of the key landmark sights in Truro over lunchtime on 24 March.
The final event of the day will start at around 6.30pm and will be held at Retallack Resort and Spa. Tickets will start from £10 per person and organisers are promising a range of music, entertainment and surfing fun for people attending. Full details of this event will be announced in the next week.
All money raised during Cornwall Twestival Local will be donated to the Cornwall Community Foundation as the nominated charity. The Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF) launched seven years ago and is a charity that is committed to supporting local projects in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly that engage local people in making their communities better places to live.
Tickets for all events must be purchased before the events via the Cornwall Twestival website Tickets go on sale on 28 February, and start from just £5 for a team of four for the treasure trail; £5 for the pyjama party and £15 for one of the Ask Aren Social Media sessions and £10 for the final event of the day at Retallack. 100% of the money raised through ticket sales will go to Cornwall Community Foundation.

The Cornwall Local Twestival Committee is made up of a number of volunteers from the local business community and is being led by Mark Smith of CPR Regeneration. Mark said, “We’ve sought to include something for everyone in Cornwall Twestival Local 2011 and have a blistering evening event planned too. I hope everyone will dig deep and support the events and what is a very local charity.”
A number of local businesses have already signed up to sponsor the event, they include: Aren Grimshaw Social Media Consultant, Firegrass Communications, PFA Research, UKNetWeb, YTKO and Partner to Succeed. PR4Photos will be the official photographer for the event.
Any business interested in becoming a sponsor should contact Shelley Fletcher 01209 311072 or email shelley@firegrasscommunications.co.uk
The committee celebrated the announcement of the full Twestival programme at Perranporth Beach on Saturday afternoon with a photo shoot. Sadly, dedicated and passionate committee member Martin Philp died shortly after this photograph was taken. Martin’s family have kindly given permission for the image of Martin and his fellow committee members to be used to promote Twestival, an event he was extremely passionate about.
Martin will be sadly missed by everyone involved in Cornwall Twestival and amongst the digital community in Cornwall, of which he was an active member.
This year’s Cornwall Twestival Local will be dedicated to the memory of Martin Philp.
