Cornish lifeboat crew 'to pay for parking'
A crew of a Cornish lifeboat station have said they have been told they can no longer park for free in the council-owned car park while on training sessions.
The crew from Bude said they had an agreement with Cornwall Council to park for free while they were training.
The RNLI said the agreement seemed to be over, but have said their crew members should not have to pay.
Cornwall Council told BBC News the car park discussions were ongoing.
A spokesperson from the RNLI said: "The charity works closely with Cornwall Council with an agreement that any parking tickets issued while the lifeboat crew are responding to a service callout will be withdrawn.
"The volunteers give up a lot of time for the institution including exercises and regular training.
"We hope to work with Cornwall Council to find a solution," they added.
Training sessions take place twice a week and up to 20 vehicles belonging to crew and staff use the car park.
Chris Cloke, operations manager of Bude lifeboat station, said: "The crew are refusing to pay, they are not happy.
"They shouldn't be paying."
A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said the discussions were "ongoing

Yes, something like that. I bet Bude's Town mayor has a reserved parking space and no doubt other Councillors too!

It's a silly place to park a lifeboat, missp! Sorry! Just being frivolous. I seriously cannot believe that brave men like these can possibly find themselves in a position where they have to pay to train for the saving of lives. That would be a travesty! Mind you, if they're abusing the right to free parking, that would be a different matter. At face value, that doesn't seem to be the case.
