Thresher it's all over!

Thresher off license goes in to administration and closes all of it's branches with immediate affect.
An outlet is either of the bung-ho get some cheapo booze here, never mind the taste, or of the selected and fine drinks with a slightly higher price tag to cover the longer shelf storage. Threshers was neither. It is a shame because a very special lady worked in there and I hope she finds something for her future. Best of Luck.

Now you see it! Now you don't! I have to admit that I have obviously been going around with my eyes closed! It was news to me! Thanks, Hareing Hack!

Trouble is with a lot of wines it is not exactly clear if it is Chateau neuf de Pap
or Pap's Eau de neuf chats.

@treeve unfortunately Thresher's are forbidden by law to reduce their beers wines and spirits even though they have gone out of business. Unlike the customary 50% reductions we would normally see when a company goes bust.... License premises are forbidden under the 2003 licensing act to sell alcohol in an irresponsible manner. This includes large discounts and buy one get one free.
Rather ironic that in the last days of the shop they are only allowed to reduce the stock down to supermarket prices.

Not sure to what you were replying? To be honest the last thing I want to see on the street are cheapo booze. However, there is a market for it. I have never had a hope or expectation of a flurry of alcohol sales from a dying outlet. What did you think that I meant?

I was just making a general reply with reference to your mention about the differences in alcohol sales rather than a direct reply to a question or statement. I thought it important to mention the reason why they still have lots on the shelves and how the licensing act is working against this company right up to the last minute.
I can think of a few that flaunt the law right now in town and seemingly get a way with it.
Thresher was a well respected outlet. I trained with Peter Dominic's and that later became Thresher. The quality of training was high enough to kick start my carer. From there I started a national off license chain employing more than 3,000 people and advised a supermarket chain on Beers, wines and spirits in a head office capacity.
So to me this is a sad day.
But without the training this company afforded me I wouldn't have been able to advise companies like Safeway, Tesco and Lo-Cost.

That I quite agree. My memory was that it was a better outlet in Peter Dominic's day. I have a memory of a good outlet at the top of the Terrace? Since the demise of Davy, for me there is only one outlet from 1976 and that is Mounts Bay Wine - they use the original box till that was in use in the original building (Bodilly's)

I hasten to add that my pocket does not always stretch to accommodate my taste buds.

Well I bought a nice Pinot Noir in there yesterday. A reasonable discount for a really tasty wine. Very sad that it will be the last time I set foot in there as Threshers.
