The New Hong Kong restaurant

I believe this to be the first Chinese restaurant in Penzance. I recommend their Sunday Lunch Buffet! :)
I remember doing a photo spread for the opening,I tend to think of a small Chinese in Parade Street before this one opened next to the Honeypot

Just about as Art Deco as it gets, and still with the long metal glazing bars; but whizzing past the architecture, yes good food, it always has been,; when it opened first, I believe it was a spin off of the Chinese Restaurant in Plymouth; I remember the main man from that restaurant. We were on an architectural trip, special curry - wow, hot or what? First time Chinese meal. All those lovely flavours and aromas.

There are some wonderful art deco buildings in PZ. If you can lift your eyes beyond Rowe s pasties in Causewayhead your eyes get a real tret. So easy to miss. Are there any pictures of that building on here? If not I must correct that on my next visit home.

I have a two page celebration of Art Deco, in Penzance, on my website, most of them designed by Colin Minors Drewitt (brother of Frederick Drewitt). Many towns have lost their Art Deco buildings; we need to care for ours.

I believe where this building stands was originally the Shoulder of Mutton inn, an extremely low building with a thatched roof. In the yard at the rear of this property stood an old prison- the Prison of the Hundred of Penwith for civil debtors and a most wretched place by all accounts.
