Ah, this explains the "1980" matter! W H Smith returned to Penzance in that year, after an absence of 12 years. Parker's moved into the Branwell building after the fire which gutted their original premises in the late 60s. This also explains why I couldn't remember WHS being here before the opening of their current premises, which I believe used to be Stuarts, a clothes shop.
