Sweet Shop - Market Jew Street - 1949 News cutting

This is a compromise after many attempts to scan an old cutting torn almost in two. The caption is curled under but the sketch intact. I quote the caption in my comment below.

No publication name or date but I think this looks as though it is from The Cornishman and it bears the hand written note Spring 1949
Caption: Demolition has begun of this small sweet shop in the middle of Market Jew Street, Penzance where Mrs. W. E. Trudgeon and her sister had carried on business since 1910. Mrs. Trudgeon fought early in January Penzance Gas Company s claim for possession but an order was made in the company s favour.

How often does the Cornishman pay for such a delightful sketch instead of using a photograph? Wonderful. James P Power, I see.

So do you know where, in MJS, this shop was, Treeve?
Given the reference to the 'Penzance Gas Company' would it have been overlooking the gas works site? Can you tell from the sketch? My knowledge of the town is too sketchy (sorry) to work it out.

Thanks CW. I remember Trevail's, it seems this was in Gas Court, next up from there.
My ignorance diminishes....slightly.

This little shop was just down from gas lane....got many a Ha'peth of sweets there when I was young, the
pavement at that point was very narrow perhaps about two feet, one had to climb about three steps and
through a barn door which rang one of those bell on a spring which were around in those days...If I
remember right down from the opway was Hendy's fish merchant they moved across the street to the
Terrace.....
