Rowe Ironmongers at Number 78 Market Jew Street [2]

Rowe Ironmongers at Number 78 Market Jew Street next to Ludlow Ship Brokers at No. 77
Nr 79, demolished, despite Guinness, to make way for Courts and now a sportswear shop, neither of which seem to have taken their business to heart as much as the people did in the days of this photograph, by a long long chalk.

Previously assumed most likely Queen Victoria s Jubilee year of 1897. But see correction below ...

I am confused. No. 77 is now Cut Loose and there is no number 78. Did that building get demolished at the same time as 79?

I have planned on photographing this area today; Which one is the excellent computer shop, I thought that was 77; As far as I am aware, 79 and 80 were the demolished ones.

Just back from a trail across the icy wastes .. you are right Nr 78 has bitten the dust.

To correct my previous guess at the date ... note the mention of King George VI on the Poster on Nr 79 Market Jew Street; this must be 1945 the VE (Victory in Europe) Day celebrations. I will correct that on the other picture.
