Rescue from the Jeanne-Gougy

This was a dramatic rescue. Several hours after the trawler ran aground men were seen in the wheelhouse and rescued. Sgt Eric Smith, helicopter winchman was awarded the George medal after he entered the vessel through the wheelhouse (which was repeatedly submerged) to search for survivors. Several of the crew were lost.

Who remembers Cornish Match Company? They made excellent quality matches, a great series of labels and had an eccentric and charismatic proprietor by all accounts.
I don t know about the Isles of Scilly, Treeve. All I can say is that I saw the boat just below the cliffs at Land s End. My brother s two photos are somewhere on PP among my user albums and I remember pictures on display at Land s End also.

I take it back! I see there was a Jeanne Gougy (as opposed to the Jean Gougy) too and that s obviously the one to which I refer. Your reference shows that her brother had problems of the Western Rocks, Scilly.

I enjoyed mine as well, HH! Wish I d stayed there! I love British weather and the jet stream, don t you? The rain in Spain falls mainly - in Cornwall and England! :!:
