No 1, New Street

Note the Saddlers which belonged to Mr Nicholls, next door to No. 1, which is now part of the Star. When I lived at No.1, I used to go in there to have all my little leather jobs done, like making me a scout belt, or having a new strap attached to my bass drum pedal when I had stretched it accentuating the beat! Mr Nicholls was very obliging!
Bought my school satchel there when I started PGGS! The 'Employment Exchange' was situated at the end of the alley to the left of the saddlers.

I used to have the leather strap on my bass drum foot pedal replaced there when it had stretched too far to be effective any more. Earlier I would have my Boy Scout leather belt made there and holes punched in various leather straps where necessary.
