Lethbys Bazaar View Book Number 8 - Newlyn Harbour
Obviously without the WWII extension for the gun emplacements etc... I have never seen a picture that shows the end of the pier without the extension.

May well have been, but the information that I was given relates to WWII events and emplacements.

Yes, the extension was built to incorporate a defence system; it housed three machine guns and a watch post; it was left after the war to give turning space for vehicles. An army guard sentry box was set at the head of each pier, passes were required for entry to the pier. The navy later took over the lower third of the pier; a concrete blockhouse was built to accommodate the men; a boom defence was set at the entrance to the harbour, with a steel net; a nightly password had to be given to enable access by any boats.

I remember the piers being guarded by WR Policemen with side arms, the RN had a machine shop towards the end of the pier with CPO Hart and other ratings, Newlyn was also a station for the boats of air sea rescue

A shop had been commandeered by the army and a post set up to issue passes for entry to the pier. Can you remember which shop it was, by any chance?

I remember Pz piers having an army guard but not at Newlyn, but in those days things and men were always on the move

It is my belief that it was, after spending some time walking along its length. I would like to be more specific, but there are just so many projects that I can contemplate working on.
