Yes Mike png is lossless and compresses well whilst still being scalable. Jpg isn't so good under compression. Basically the name of the game is loading the image as fast as possible whilst maintaining the quality. Pitty SVG wasn't any good for photos.
You should be able to have control over your images and be able to delete them if you want and re-upload them and also put them in whatever order you want. Mind you if you delete the images you'll loose the comments and loikes though
