This well-worn carving is of the insignia of Penzance - the severed head of John the Baptist - and is built into the facade of the Art School at the top of Morrab Road. Sorry about the poor picture - a mixture of a dull day and having to dodge the traffic...
Beat me to it .. I have a set of these to go up; I had a vague memory of it but walking past buildings we do not always see the obvious. The other panel was moved when the building was widened and re-set in a new position a few years later. Pictures and story now uploaded.
