I have a Canon 10D and a 100mm Canon Macro Lens for close ups and macro, I find the 10D with that lens on, quite heavy though, i have trouble holding it still. But that particular shot, I could have got the same shot with my Nikon and 18-55mm lens, you don't need any special equipment for those shots, just get in as close as the camera will allow, take a nice shot and crop it.
