Hmmm - I can t say that I know of such a pub here, but I am minded of the one connected with the Branwells - I think at Haworth, and if it is that one has a decided connection with Penzance.
The pillared frontage and the ground and first floor windows are very similar to the Fountain Tavern, Pz. Could this be a much earlier incarnation, the present extra floor added later, as well as extended rearwards?
Lateral thinking is exactly my bag as well Penzancemaid. Earliest photograph is in 1838; Fountain Tavern (built as The Fountain) was built around 1835, nice trough and gas lamp; I am going to have a go at enhancing the picture; a very wide pavement area for the horses and waggons; that large brick building on the left fascinates me.
Look it s a bit of a guess, but what about that pub on the corner of Penpol Terrace Hayle? It s opposite Slades (well was) and the pub looks quite like this today. The rod has a bend and is wider because of the train track and crossing on one side and harbour entrance on the other.
behind the fountain tavern to the left of the photograph stood st clair villa built 1825 the wall around the garden came very close to the pub ??? do you remember satellite
