If you look in my album Smoke on the Water you will find full details of her Meet the neighbours . Naples is her name. I also have a good sized folder of her arrival and the difficulties involved in getting her to quay. Look for my album Naples .
You sure that wasn t when they were pumping her out, as the tide came in the welding hadn t been finished below the water line and they had to call in the fire engines because the pumps the dock had were not man enough. He He it made the local rag. ::6:
I was there when the flanks were being cut down; I asked why they were cut below the water line, and the water was flooding into the hull; my Polish does not extend to that kind of conversation; I think I have a picture of the water pouring in; I also saw the Fire Engines pumping, but this was a team of labourers each rubbing each other the wrong way and arguing just where the leak was in the pier. I offered advice based on my experience in Westminster, but the usual deaf ears was the response. Ain t life grand.
I was in the office when the call came she s sinking get the pumps but because of cut back the stand by pump used at dock bottom hadn t been repaired, many calls later they couldn t get another one big enough henc the call the the fire brigade.
Another by the way evidently the firm Taylors that supplied the Polish and Latvian workers here and other places have also gone to the wall and at Penryn the Polish workers have walked. I do stand to be corrected on this if I have been informed incorrectly.
Very good work ethic, they used to do 12hr shifts, I think the firm that they worked for, in this case Taylors, had such a work force that cash flow was a problem. I m fairly confident that the information recieved was kosher.
