Tregeseal and Carn Kenidjack

Small lake, presumably a mining relic, about two hundred yards from the Tregeseal Stone Circle. There minnows to be found inhabiting it, and lily pads, and so presumably, it is not totally poisonous.
Two things, the minnows did not walk there, so they have come from a stream of long standing, or they were introduced (an odd thing to have done) and the presence of minnows indicates that there could well be herons or kingfishers, or even otters about; minnows like well oxygenated water (in fact they do not survive unless it is).

I see that Kurt Jackson has painted pool/lake/pond scenes and mentions places such as Catcher s Pool and Warren Pool which look like this watery place! Whether they apply to this lakelet, I don t know. I can t find it on the OS map but I can see water courses in the right place. The farm might have created the pond as many do.

To have created this pool would have required a considerable amount of labour and purpose, let alone the placing of the extracted material, let alone working in such wet conditions. Besides there is the fact of the minnows; to have populated the pool with such fish would have been rather off-beat - to what purpose?

I have found references to china clay operations nearby, but not specifically for this area. I would like to know any details.

Quite, it is just that I have a big question about these little fish. Unlike animals and birds that can move at will. and plants which can be introduced by other passive natural elements, fish at this point would have to be specifically introduced or naturally occurring over a period of thousands of years. Unless they were introduced as a part of an ecological clean-up of some kind. But that would have been quite recent. Fish of that particular breed have no specific purpose as food. No one keeps them as pets so I have to discount any ideas of having been emptied from an aquarium of any kind. Either looking for evidence or a specific logic. [no smiley faced smiley so pretend you are seeing one here]

tis true, but deeper than that ... all very Barclay James Harvest ... deep pools of blue ...
