PTF Nasty Fast Attack vessel Built for the Norwegian Navy, in Penzance wet dock undergoing a major refit and restoration. The two engines out to be replaced with new engines, less power. Combined power of 3300 bhp !!
These vessels were used to guard and patrol the fjords of Norway, selected because of their power, and their stability at speed. They are used all over the world as fast attack vessels by other navies. The sight of a flotilla is simply mind blowing.
each of these engines could produce 3,700 bhp (but not for too long!) . A Napier Deltic compound engine produced 5,600 bhp - sort of super super charged.
That's me lower left talking to Robin Wilkins (in the loud overalls). One of these actual engines was put in a 'Deltic' Locomotive and visited Penzance a couple of years ago.
Worked with Rob down the docks 'till he got laid off last year, last time I spoke to him he was going to Falmouth/Penryn to work.
In the 60's one of Rob's best friends was Steve Palk who owns the PTF Nasty. I believe the owner of the Locomotive had both engines? as there wasn't any other that would fit and run the train properly.
