Boys of the Old Brigade

Edwin Hocking of Madron (seated) my wifes Grandfather
DCLI world war one
When the world that was known, living style and lives were all at risk, no assurances of tomorrow at all. Not that I would wish those days to return, but it produced a special kind of people and a special kind of society. Admiration and Respect, as well as Gratitude are owed to these people.

These days, we have an idea of what modern warfare entails, soldiers have an idea of what to expect once they reach the combat zone. Nothing could prepare men like these for what was to come as they headed off to the trenches. And from my understanding, very little support for those fortunate to return, whether fit and able or suffering from physical or mental illnesses. When are governments going to learn that if they are prepared to send men off to die, they should be prepared to ensure that those who return are well taken care of for the remainder of their lives?
