Banana Lilly's Closed

Banana Lilly's was a organic and natural beauty shop set in Arcade Steps. They closed this week for good and apologised to customers but they couldn't carry on.
29th December 2008
I find this all rather disturbing (as I am sure the owners and customers are doing) especially at the news that Meeks old store is to become offices and an arcade of small shops. The building that I know as Bodilly s Store of 1837 is also to become flats, offices and shops ... it appears there is money somewhere.

I agree but I honestly believe that the high streets will never be the same. In my lifetime I predict that Market Jew Street will be an upper crust housing street and no retails units in sight. I also think that supermarkets will expand to take over large areas of land and push the shoppers to virtual shopping (on line shopping) and all that will remain will be a handful of independent shops and specialists.

Now, that is a very interesting stance to take, as Market Jew Street used to be a stretch of housing, with slaughterhouses all down its length; it was gradually extended and changed into better class houses, with a handful of shops. Then our outlets expanded and grew until the heyday of c1890; gradually the markets changed, largely driven by the Empire; then along comes true commercialism and keeping up with the Jones s after WWII, and finally absolute power wielded by Banks and Supermarkets have wreaked destruction and havoc, due to the spiralling impossiblilities of desires in relation to the availablity of finance. Man cannot Live on Debt alone. Sooner or later the Piper calls the tune ... and we dance into Oblivion.

Don t start me on money being somewhere Treeve, I had a well known aerial shop in Penzance out today about no signal on my Sky, the fault had cleared the man was here 15mins and I was charged £67.85!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
