Albert Street 1950s

Supplied by Tommy and Rene Bennetts. This picture shows a Western National bus going down Albert Street. Today this isn't possible because this is the one way system around Branwell Mill. In the background you can see T F Hosking agricultural merchants (now Branwell Mill Car park).
The whole of the building known erroneously as Branwell s Mill was TF Hosking s premises. There were shops at the upper side, the brick buildings in the centre at the top of Albert Street (originally Neddy Betty s Lane) was the premises of JH Bennetts, coal merchants, the lower section being later used for Gas cylinder sales. The building was faced in the finest faience tiling just after the War as part of the War restoration works, All of this work was designed by Cowell, Drewitt and Wheatly.

Never mind, I have found it. It is where the kennels are in Madron. Amazing there was a bus service to somewhere so small...

The 138 service was Pz station to Tredinnick which if I remember correctly ran only on thursday's in those days
was market day......another service to out of the way
places was one to Roskestal via Sparnon and yet another
to Nanquidno....

Up until the 80's there was a service that ran to Sellan Lane and a St Just Bus that went over Morvah Moors via Madron. Number 512 if I remember rightly.

You do remember rightly CW. In my school days they were the 10 direct Pz -Alverton- Newbridge-St Just, 10A, Pz -Heamoor-Madron - Morvah - St Just and 10B, PZ-Alverton-Newbridge-North Roadand Portheras Cross-St Just. (These later became 510 and 512 I think)

There were also variations, e.g. morning school 10B would turn off at Tremethick Cross go along Boscathnoe Lane to Mount's Bay School and thence to Pig Market, Clarence Street and down to the station. A 10 would leave town that way after school rather than through Alverton. One of the morning buses would start from Carnyorth rather than St Just, turning there and waiting a few minutes before returning to town. There were buses every half hour in either direction then, generally travelling direct one way and returning along either the A or B route....
anyone still awake?
