Wedding Reception 1965

So, who can tell me how much this would be in 2009?
Full three course meal, Sauternes, Bristol Cream .. none of your colonial tap water.
I have been informed via a professional that this would in today's costs be £2,051; £40 per head, wine £135; sherry £75; orangeade £16 and cigarettes £25. Thank you Vanessa and to your husband. I should add the fact that it is invoiced to Mr and Mrs Shaw. I do not know what convention is now, but then it was supposed to be the Bride's father that 'footed the bill' as a contemporary equivalent of the dowry, I suppose. My father in law was a poorly paid baker - he was always in awe of my salary, a dizzy £10 per week. Marlene and I decided that it was unfair to foist this bill off onto her father, so I asked for the bill to be in their name, I settled it and he, bless him, retained his pride. It was very important to him, as it was important to many in those days.

I saw a half bottle of sauternes in a glass case at the store
here where I shop...its price a staggering $395.00 thats
about 200 quid or more, certainly out of my price range !!
no wonder it was in a glass case....

That actually is a part of my problem, when it comes to that kind of wine, I head for the Barsac, then when I see the price, I go home. It may have been written as 'white wine' but it was best Sauternes. Bit of a difference now, I can dream, I guess.

I attended a reception here in the early 70's. When the adults had retired to the evening entertainments (I was about 14 at the time) a friend and I grabbed all of the cigarettes that had not been smoked. Presented on each table in long slender glasses were Peter Stuyvesant cigarettes, theres a brand from the past. We ended up with about 40 each and a fair amount of street credibility the next day.
