Roadside Cross 3

St Buryan
It has been suggested that this cross outside the Church of St Buryan, and much cruder than the elaborately carved churchyard cross inside the lan or enclosure, was adopted as the Deanery Market Cross, when the parish was granted a charter for a market in 1302, in the reign of King Edward I. Therefore the cross may have been set up on the platform as a focal point, so that the villagers and stall holders would have been reminded of Our Lord during their day of secular activities.
