Penzance 1799

Showing the extent of cliff from Chyandour to the basin. The 1766 harbour had been extended in 1785. This view taken from Eastern Green beach, and shows a ship heading to beach; this was done in two places on the beach, one at Chyandour and another centre between the Cressars. Mostly to avoid quay duty. But this tells us that the tide was going out, as it gave time to beach, offload and load cargo and or passengers, before the tide could take the ship out again.
