First and Last

In 1851 this was still a part of the 7 acres of farmland around the area. As the roads opened up to take passenger coaches, this became a coaching stage with an eating house; it appears that beer was sold retail for a while. First recorded use as an Inn was in 1873. The near wall had a Drinking Fountain.
From its odd plan, abnormal height and the wall treatment as seen in the c1890 pictures, it appears to have been adapted from an older cottage, when Wellington Terrace was built.
There's a great photograph somewhere which shows all the coaches and horses assembled outside this pub in the latter part of the 19th Century (?) or beginning of the next. I'll look it out if I can.

I have it in two books thankyou, you have done enough of late with regards to Longships.
