Carn Gort - 5April2010

The English Heritage site which contains Faugen Round, believed to be an Iron-Age bi-vallate hill fort (meaning two ditches). It is believed to have been built between 500 BC and 0AD. The two outer walls can still be seen; these would have formed the rampart defences of an historic village made of roundhouses and under the leadership of a local nobleman.
Indeed!

But I thought you must be going to correct 'Carn Gort', BoP! For one thing I meant 'Carn Fort' as I found this written somewhere and secondly, its proper name is Faugan Round, a hill fort but on the OS 1:25000. The District Nurse is standing behind one of the two existing stones known as the Faugan Stones, gateposts of the long-vanished entrance to the fort. 'Faugan' is the correct spelling and not 'Faugen' as spelt incorrectly by English Heritage.

Me? Correct someone? The very idea! Besides, I've only ever known it referred to as 'Faugan Round'
(although it has to be pointed out, I've also only ever seen the menhirs referred to as the Stones Faugan :D )
