This small complex off the bottom New Street on the right comprises a number of cottages amid a sort of folly made up of a number of architectural items gathered by architect Mr Clifford who put them all together for atmosphere. A couple of his props may be seen here.
@Tpp...The Abbey Place I remember ran from New street to the back entrance of
the Turk Inn - there were about six little cottages those were demolished back in the 1950's
I didn't know that, welb. That's interesting. My family lived in New St from c 1957 - c1982. I am not certain that this particular precinct is called Abbey Place but I think it is. I must check it out on the Council map!
@Tpp...My father was born in one of the cottages of Cherry Gardens way back in 1895,
and looking at later census they went on to live at 1 North Parade....a long time ago !!
Welb, I lived at No. 1, New St. before it was merged with the Star. Where the appartments at Cherry Gardens are now (if so named then) there were a number of pre-fabs on it presumably from the last war, when I was a boy.
