WWI Destroyer - 1

A World War I destroyer scrapped by Thomas W Ward at the quay at Lelant around 1920; the destroyer is reputed to have been in service at Jutland. There is a strange device welded to the hull in the form of a radiating sun. The side of the destroyer has been used as a 'retaining wall' for many years; it obviously has a limited life in that capacity and before it either collapses or becomes the victim of HSE, it would be good to identify her. Thomas W Ward closed at Hayle in
1949. My own opinion is that the hull should be cleared of the stupid dumping of lamp posts, and the pathway diverted/strengthened.

Unsure, at the moment, just where I read that, but I did read it, irrespective of the date of closure of Thomas Ward, the puzzle as to this vessel still exists and must be resolved and protected :)

I see that the area has been researched and documentsd by Cornwall Archaeology with the help of a friend of mine, Angela Broom with particular reference to Langley and Small (1988).

Lost Ships of the West Country includes a picture of the scrapped destroyer (in 1986) before the advent of lamp posts. p107
