Thank you for your series of pictures taken at Trevaylor woods, they have brought back a few memories for me from nearly sixty years ago. Is there still a well on the left hand side of the footpath leading down from the road to the woods?
Thank you, trevelyan! There are a number of stoney structures on that path down to the woods and, without being too well informed, I think I remember some sort of disused pump in a brick (?) structure to the left. Whether this was once a well or converted well, I cannot say. I'll take a better look next time. Somebody else may know - Treeve or Bay of Plenty.
Youngsters at the time called it a wishing well, it was overgrown and concealed a bricked entrance leading down five feet below the level of the path. It seemed as if the “well” had been filled in with stones with a foot of water covering, so the true depth wasn’t apparent, however sometimes rooting around the surface stones would uncover a few coins. So was it a wishing well or a local Boo Radley ?
