The Phillack Towans and Upton Towans

These are the 'Three miles of golden sands' stretching beyond Hayle to Godrevy Lighthouse. 'Towan' is a Cornish word which you won't find in the dictionary, coming as it does from 'tewynn' or sand-dune. Cornish dialect preserved the word as the 'towans'.
