A seven-foot skeleton was found in the church in a small cell excavated when the building was brought back into use some two or three hundred years ago. He was no doubt feared and treated unkindly as a freak. No wonder there are tales of giants on this island. Either they were engendered by this poor fellow whose bones will have dissolved to nothing in the cemetery's acid soil, or perhaps are a folk memory of the chieftains of ancient tribes who lived on hilltops in Cornwall and whom they led into battle.
