This area was under threat in the 1890s as well, with a major proposal for a tram system, and it was considered necessary to build out in front of Batten s Wharf and Lime Wharf, extending across this beach and through the 1838 sea wall (and later works), on the left of the picture, to the Wharf, just where the original Harbourmaster s office was positioned at the end of The Dolphin. Apparently it was considered madbrain then and was dropped.
