It looks like a grevilleas of the Proteaceae family, which grow in all over Australia. I was born and raised in a house in Penare Road, and the only coastguard building that I can recall was at the end of Thornberry Terrace and Britons hill.
Well, as I've said before, there are so many different names for sections of the road leading up to the Rec: Briton's Hill, Thornberry Tce, Penare Road, Lescudjack Tce, The Mews, Penare Gardens. Many's the lorry driver I've had to turn round from the top end when they have failed to find their destination lower down. I tend therefore to generalise when I say Penare Road.
Thanks, folks, for supplying the name. I thought it was the' bottle brush plant' but didn't use that in case it was the same as the way I formulate my own name for what everyone calls the television's 'remote control'. I say 'channel changer'. As usual, I set the trend, not follow it!
