Lone Sentinel

Top of Ponsandane (west side of bypass); not sure if this is a Monterey Cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) or Stone Pine (Pinus Pinea).
Rook deciding whether to land or not ... it did not, as the wind grew and the rain started.
As an old exile it’s good to see that these trees have survived, also the ginkgo biloba opposite the town hall.(St Johns decorated II)

Having worked in Buriton House, a good number of years, I have watched that gingko biloba grow from a tree just to the mid window height of the upper floor. We had bird feeders in it. Drawing board work can get stressful.

Years ago the wife and I were admiring the mineral collection across the road and amongst the fossil section was a perfect impression of a biloba leaf, one of the first trees on earth. Looking out of the window we could see first hand that one of its descendants was still surviving, despite its location next to the road.
