Gorseth Kernow 1976 Heyl
Lovely shot, in the time when summers were hot and dry and Hayle had an ugly power station...

The summer of 1976 was quite exceptional though. I don't think we had another one that hot until this century. There was a long hot dry spell in 1975 over much of Britain but it didn't start until late on down our end. I remember this well from the moans of all the holiday-makers I served in the Wimpy that summer. I remember some dreary summer weather from my youth, waking to the song of Pendeen fog-horn for days on end.

Also meant to say. It is the centenary of the power station next year and I have somewhere a leaflet from an open-day visit there which was, I think, in the 50th anniversary year.
A relative in Hayle who we visited from time to time worked there and he showed us around. I recall that I, as a small boy, was immensely impressed by the scale of the machines. Never occurred to me that the power station might be ugly; it was just there.

Since its inauguration, I think the open Gorsedh has only been held indoors twice. I remember one in Camborne where the contingency plan had to be operated and it was held in Camborne School Hall. It's always held on the first Saturday in September.
