Chapel Street - 53

Nr 53 Chapel Street
8th August 2008
For some inexplicable reason is named The Old Custom House.
Quite impossible.
This is an exquisite house of itself.
I know the guy who painted that building ... it was a terrible job! after three months the paint was see through!...... It was a director of PP!
I noticed that the scaffold has been erected again ..... let s hope that the paint job is better this time!
BTW I sacked him April this year. ::15:

These buildings require to be decorated with real paint as made in the times they were built. They are still being made by specialist paint suppliers. The paints should be applied in the traditional manner. Many of these buildings however are painted inside and out with off the shelf and lasts for two years and applied by techniques that beggar belief. When it was The Stencil House, I know a great deal more care was taken.

I believe he used BandQ paint. He painted it in 2007 during the rainy season. In fact it looked better before he painted it!

So many paint walls and timberwork, without a thought to use microporous paints. The end result is trapped moisture and short lived details, especially with rotting timber. These old buildings are not constructed with undersill flashings ... the water just goes into the windows below, and spreads out into inner timbering and into adjoining plasterwork. Big Mistake. False Economy. Your buildings are worth the expense.

@halfhidden - was that the rag roll finish that you were talking about? I must check the book to see what date that was.
