Slightly alarming is the fact that the high stone wall of 8 feet in height that surrounded the large garden was still in existence in 1955. Atop that granite work until the advent of WWII (and the Beaverbrook pointless campaign) was a three foot heavy ironwork fence. A set of railings with a gateway adorned the front granitework area to the bottom of the present steps. Before the Drewitts arrived, the wall was matt painted duck blue, heavily peeling off in fronds. In the last thirty years or so it has remained gloss white.
