Bridgers books in the 60S and Davy Wine

Wrong caption but another great shot of these shops pre-demolition in the 80s, probably 1982 according to other pictures of the same scene elsewhere on Picture Penzance.

Unsure, was this not Bridger's Book shop before? What Mr Bridger did not know about books was not worth writing; A very erudite and pleasant gentleman. His assistant was a young lady - a delightful young soul.
As far as demolition is concerned this building was one by Caldwell and Perkins, the present building is an offence to the architectural profession and to the fine town of Penzance. This was the time of the original rot of Penzance .. which continues today under the vicious hands of those who should be protecting Penzance.

Thanks for that info clip; sad day for Penzance - brilliant shop, I have a struggle these days to find what I want.

I believe the owner in the 60's was Mr Linfoot, who was helped by his daughter. He always wrapped books I bought in brown paper and string. I think he appeared, rather unsuccessfully, on Mastermind. As you say, a very nice man.
